Box of Potatoes

What Size Should I Buy?
Once they have been harvested, SunGlo-Idaho® Potatoes are carefully inspected and sorted. The pick of the crop are then automatically sized, weighed and packaged. The most popular carton sizes are the 100-count, 90-count, 80-count and 70-count boxes.
Each carton weighs 50 lbs, so the chart to the right shows which sizes one can expect to find in each box. This way, you will know what to order and get just what you need for your purposes.

The wide range of sizes available gives you the versatility you need for ideal menu planning. Although your operation's needs may vary, common uses for the various sizes have been determined. Potatoes in the 4 to 6 oz range are ideal for potato salads, soups and stews, hash browns and diced or sauteed potatoes. Slightly larger potatoes, from approximately 7 to 9 ozs, work well on salad bars or in side dishes. 10 through 12 oz potatoes can be hollowed out to make potato skins, served as baked side dishes, or topped for tasty lunchtime entrees. Potatoes weighing in at 13 oz and above make a complete entree when stuffed, or a hearty side dish for a full dinner.

SunGlo-Idaho® Potato cartons or consumer bags contain #1 potatoes. In food-service, the #2s are available in 100 lb. bags or a one piece carton. These are an economical option for fresh fries, fresh mashed, and any other occasion when the potato's original appearance is not essential. Despite differences in appearance, #1 and #2 SunGlo-Idaho® potatoes have the same great taste and texture.
